Reese Witherspoon is developing Jane Harper’s Australian crime thriller novel “The Dry” as a film after having secured the film rights. She and Bruna Papandrea will produce.
Set amidst an epic drought in which a farmer turns his gun on his family and then himself in a rural community. An investigator, and the farmer’s childhood friend, returns to the town that rejected him in order to learn the truth.
That isn’t the only book adaptation in the works today as novelist/screenwriter Ava Dellaria (“Love Letters To The Dead”) has been hired to adapt Jennifer L. Armentrout’s 2014 novel “Obsidian” for Sierra Pictures and Mr. Mudd.
The story follows a girl who moves with her mother to a boring small-town in West Virginia. There a brother and sister who are her neighbors and turn out to be aliens. When she falls for the brother, and he touches her, she becomes a homing device for an army of alien enforcers.
The book is the first in a five-volume series known as the Lux Series. Russ Smith and Lianne Halfon will produce.
