After a long wait, it looks like the trailer for the film adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Dark Tower” is finally arriving with Trailer Track reporting that the new preview has been rated in Canada by Consumer Protection BC.
When this happens, it usually means the trailer will hit within the next fortnight or so. Nikolaj Arcel helms from a script by Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner with the film effectively serving more as a sequel to the book series as opposed to a straight adaptation.
The film stars Jake Chambers (Tom Taylor) as a young 11-year-old adventure seeker who discovers clues about another dimension called Mid-World. He travels to Mid-World where he encounters the lone frontiersman knight Roland Deschain (Idris Elba) on a quest to reach the ‘Dark Tower’ – a nexus point between time and space that he hopes will save Mid-World from extinction. Matthew McConaughey also stars as the villain.
At one time the planned adaptation was to include a TV series. Asked recently about if that’s still a go, producer Ron Howard tells TV Guide: “We are working on the television component. That’s not a commitment on the television side, but creatively, it could work very well, hand in hand with what we’d like the movies to be.”
“The Dark Tower” opens in cinemas on August 4th.
