The CW Planning A “Charmed” Reboot

Following prolonged negotiations, The CW is re-teaming with “Jane the Virgin” showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman for a reboot of the cult 1990s series “Charmed” with the project receiving a script commitment.

The drama is described as a reimagining of the original TV series, this one shifting the setting to 1976, and will reportedly be connected to the original series in some fashion but it’s not clear how at this point.

Jessica O’Toole and Amy Rardin created the story and will pen the script. Brad Silberling and Ben Silverman will also executive produce with Silberling to helm the pilot. CBS Television Studios will produce.

The news comes over three years after CBS announced plans for a remake, that version didn’t come to pass. Should it go forward, it comes at an opportune time for the network which will say farewell to its similarly toned “The Vampire Diaries” this year.
