It was due to come out next month but you wouldn’t know it as no real promotional material exists yet for the film. Now “The Coup,” the action thriller starring Owen Wilson and Pierce Brosnan, is being retitled and delayed.
The John Erick Dowdle directed film, which was slated for a March 6th release, is now targeting a September 2nd date. The film will also now be called “No Escape”.
Wilson plays an American businessman who resettles his family in Southeast Asia. Suddenly finding themselves in the middle of a violent political uprising, they must frantically look for a safe escape as rebels mercilessly attack the city.
Why the title change? Seems “The Coup” tested poorly with audiences as, quite literally, it appears a decent portion of them weren’t educated enough to understand what a ‘coup’ is.
Lake Bell also stars in the film which Drew Dowdle, Michel Litvak and David Lancaster are producing.
