“Ruin,” a post-WW2 Germany revenge thriller about an ex-Nazi captain seeking atonement by hunting down the surviving members of his former SS Death Squad, has topped this year’s annual ranking of the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood – The Black List.
Matthew and Ryan Firpo penned the script which has been set up at Marc Butan’s Mad River Pictures. The project received 68 votes from among the more than 250 executives voting, beating out Mario Correa’s “Let Her Speak” which came in second with 42 votes. That film has Sandra Bullock attached to star and follows Senator Wendy Davis and her 24-hour filibuster to save 75% of abortion clinics in Texas.
In third with 40 votes was “Daddio,” the Christy Hall-penned drama about a passenger and her cab driver who reminisce about their relationships on the way from the airport to her apartment in New York. Daisy Ridley is attached to that project. Samuel Franco and Evan Kilgore’s “Keeper of the Diary” was fourth with 32 votes and follows Otto Frank’s journey to find a publisher for the diary his daughter Anne wrote during the Holocaust.
Recent films such as “Stronger,” “Miss Sloane,” and “The Post” all went into production after appearing high on previous Black Lists in 2015 & 2016. The full list for this year is up at the official website.
