The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have announced the ten finalists for the visual effects Oscar who are set to participate in the annual ‘bake off’ to determine the final five 2017 nominees.
Several earlier round entries have dropped off, notably “Warcraft,” “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice,” “Deadpool,” “Suicide Squad” and “Sully”. The showdown between the remaining ten will screen on January 7th. Each film will have the opportunity to show ten-minute excerpts to the voting committee. The finalists are:
“Captain America: Civil War”
“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”
“The Jungle Book”
“Kubo and the Two Strings”
“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”
The nominees for the 89th Oscars will be announced on Tuesday, January 24th ahead of the main Oscars ceremony itself on Sunday, February 26th.
