Warner Bros. Pictures has altered plans for their upcoming release of the Ben Affleck-directed “Live by Night” adaptation in a not unexpected way. Currently slated for a wide release on January 13th 2017, the film will now also get a limited theatrical bow on December 25th.
Based on Dennis Lehane’s novel, the story is set during Prohibition in the 1920s. Affleck plays Joe Coughlin, the son of the Boston Police Superintendent, long ago turned his back on his strict upbringing for the spoils of being an outlaw.
Even among criminals there are rules and Joe breaks a big one: crossing a powerful mob boss by stealing his money and his moll. Elle Fanning, Brendan Gleeson, Chris Messina, Sienna Miller, Zoe Saldana and Chris Cooper co-star.
In related news, the Ben Younger-directed boxing biopic “Bleed for This” starring Miles Teller is changing its release date. Open Road Films was to release the film in select cinemas on November 4th ahead of a nationwide release on November 23rd. Now, it’ll get a wide release on November 18th.
The film played at the Toronto Film Festival where reviews weren’t glowing which subsequently have sunk its awards chances to some extent.
The story follows boxer Vinny Pazienza (Teller), who won two world title fights only to be taken down in the prime of his career by a car accident that injured his spine. Trainer Kevin Rooney (Aaron Eckhart) works with Vinny to not only get him to walk again, but get him back in the ring.
