Netflix has several high-profile original films hitting its service this year, and come with more pre-built awareness than “You’re Next” and “The Guest” director Adam Wingard’s “Death Note”.
An adaptation of one of the most famed manga series ever made, Wingard adapts Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata’s story into a live-action tale starring Nat Wolff, Margaret Qualley, Keith Stanfield, Shea Whigham and Willem Dafoe as the voice of Ryuk the Shinigami.
Today, the teaser trailer for the project has been released and can be seen below. The story follows a high school student who comes across a supernatural notebook – one that if the owner inscribes someone’s name into it while picturing their face, that person will die.
Intoxicated with his new godlike abilities, the young man begins to kill those he deems unworthy of life. “Death Note” will premiere globally on Netflix on August 25th.
