Taylor John Smith (“American Crime, “Hawaii Five-0”) has scored the lead role in NBC’s upcoming “Cruel Intentions” pilot which serves as a sequel set fifteen years after the end of the 1999 film.
Smith will play Bash Casey, the son of the late Sebastian Valmont (Ryan Phillippe) and Annette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon). Upon discovering his late father’s legacy in a hidden journal, Bash is introduced to a world of sex, money, power and corruption he never could have imagined.
At the same time Sebastian’s stepsister Kathryn Merteuil (Sarah Michelle Gellar) vies for control of Valmont International as well as the soul of Bash.
Gellar has been courted to reprise her role and is said to be seriously engaging in conversations about it, but a deal is not yet closed. If she signs on though it would be a series regular role.
Phillippe’s character is dead, but Witherspoon’s character Annette is in the pilot. Witherspoon will NOT be approached to return, and that role is currently being cast. Roger Kumble, the original writer and director, will executive produce and direct the pilot.
