Will Smith is the frontrunner to star in Quentin Tarantino’s spaghetti western “Django Unchained” reports Variety.
The story follows a slave named Django who teams with German bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz on a mission to rescue his wife from a sadistic plantation owner.
No official offer has been made to Smith, but Tarantino would like Smith to star as Django. Christoph Waltz is likely to play Schultz who trains Django and helps him on his quest.
Samuel L. Jackson is being sought to play Stephen, the expert manipulator and house slave of the plantation owner. Brad Pitt was reportedly offered a major supporting role but has passed on it.
The director has been meeting with studios about partnering with the Weinstein company to release the film internationally. Shooting aims to kick off in the South, possibly Louisiana, this Fall.
