“Thor: Ragnarok” director Taika Waititi has confirmed that he will also be starring as Adolf Hitler in his upcoming dark satirical “Jojo Rabbit”.
The Black List script follows a prideful and nationalistic ten-year-old boy who is severely hurt by a grenade at Hitler youth camp. He soon discovers that his mother is hiding a fifteen-year-old Jewish girl in their house.
The Hitler character here is an imaginary friend and invention of the boy who misses his dad and, due to confusion caused by Nazi propaganda, imagines a figure who is a combination of his father and the führer.
Waititi tells The Wrap: “It’s my version of… a lonely boy’s best version of his hero, which is really his dad.” A description of the character adds: “This is not the Adolf we know and hate, this guy is goofy, charming, and glides through life with a childlike naivety.”
Filming kicks off in May and is tipped to be one of the first Fox Searchlight releases under new owner Disney.
