Sylvia Hoeks, coming off her performance as the Replicant enforcer of Jared Leto’s villain in “Blade Runner 2049,” will star in Fede Alvarez’s upcoming adaptation of “The Girl in the Spider’s Web” for Sony Pictures.
Based on the David Lagercrantz penned fourth novel in the Millennium series which began with Stieg Larsson’s “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” the new film will serve as a minor reboot of the franchise. Alvarez, Steven Knight, & Jay Basu penned the script.
The story sees Mikael Blomkvist contacted by renowned Swedish scientist Professor Balder, a leader in advances in Artificial Intelligence and a friend of Salander.
Both have become targets of ruthless cyber gangsters – and a violent criminal conspiracy that will very soon bring terror to the snowbound streets of Stockholm.
Hoeks will play Camilla, the evil twin sister of hacker heroine Lisbeth Salander (Claire Foy). Filming begins in January in Berlin and Stockholm ahead of a October 19th 2018 release.
