Sutherland’s Bauer Will Only Return For “24” Film

Hinted at, shot down, hinted at again and finally quashed – the talk of Kiefer Sutherland’s involvement in the upcoming “24: Legacy” minor reboot is over. Sutherland is an executive producer but will not appear on screen in the new season as he’s busy with ABC’s “Designated Survivor”.

Fans are still holding out hope that one day he’ll return to the role of Counter Terrorist Unit agent Jack Bauer who was last seen being taken by the Russians and likely being thrown into a gulag somewhere. Speaking with Adweek this week, Sutherland revealed the one thing that would get him to bring Jack back – turn “24” into a movie.

Asked if he’ll ever make an appearance as Bauer on ‘Legacy,’ he responded : “I know never to say that. It doesn’t mean that we can’t make the [long-in-the-works 24] film… It’s a character that I love until the day I die.” A “24” film has long been rumored, and in fact the last revival “24: Live Another Day” was created out of the ashes of one of the proposed films.

“24: Legacy” premieres on FOX on February 5th next year while “Designated Survivor” debuts this Wednesday on ABC.
