Sutherland Shoots Down “24: Legacy” Return

When “24: Legacy” was announced and it was made clear that Kiefer Sutherland would not be reprising his role as Jack Bauer in the event series, there was plenty of questions as to how or if the series would work.

Cut to a few months ago when the show’s executive producer Howard Gordon got fans hopes up with a comment at the ATX TV Festival in Austin where he said: “I sure would love to see (Sutherland) at some point on the show, and I don’t think he’s ruled it out, either.”

Gordon later clarified that remark, saying “there’s no plans at the moment” for Sutherland to return to the role. The actor himself is busy working on the new ABC drama series “Designated Survivor” and this week was talking up that new drama at the Television Critics Association press tour. Naturally Deadline got to ask the man himself if there was a chance of him reprising his role in legacy.

The site says Sutherland gave a very firm: “there are absolutely no plans for that” response to the question. The actor remains an executive producer on the spin-off series which features all-new characters led by actors Corey Hawkins and Miranda Otto. It premieres in February.
