With “Wayward Sisters” not being picked up, it looks like The CW has given up on any plans for further spin-offs based on its long-running series “Supernatural”.
CW boss Mark Pedowitz, speaking at his semi-annual TCA appearance, says “if the executive producers want to do one, we’re open to listening to one” but admits it’s unlikely: “We were very happy with the women who were in the Wayward Sisters spin-off. We have a certain number of slots this year. It just did not get there. Supernatural may be Jensen and Jared – and there may not be a franchise beyond that.”
That’s a very different tune to the talk Pedowitz has said the past when asked about potential spin-offs. In terms of the main show though, he once again reiterated that the plan is to continue on with the series so long as stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are keen to continue. The show enters its fourteenth season this Fall.
Pedowitz also confirmed that Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is considering a proper “Riverdale” spin-off, and that the network has discussed a possible ad-free subscription service, but says they “don’t have enough girth to offer the consumer something that made economic sense.”
