They’re made by the same producers, same production house, sport compatible tones and are often being cross-promoted together.
Yet at the Television Critics Association press tour, CBS executive Nina Tassler has announced that there are currently no plans for “Supergirl” series to crossover with the combined DC TV Universe established by “Arrow” and “The Flash” on rival network The CW. Even so, she remain open to the possibility:
“I’m a little bit of a superhero geek and I have a lot of respect for what characters inhabit certain universes. People think “Oh yeah, pick up one character and let them fly over in another setting. You really have to be respectful and mindful of what each universe says you can and cannot do.
Obviously we’re working very closely with DC. Our producers – Greg Bertlanti is kind of the poster child for this field. I’m just saying right now we’re not doing it. We’re doing it promotionally, but we always stay open. They’re very very inventive in terms of what they can and will do in the future.”
Tassler also confirms that though there will be references to Superman in the “Supergirl” series and he will be a factor in her life, but there are no plans for him to actually appear on-screen as a fixture of the narrative.
Creator Andrew Kreisberg has confirmed some more character appearances in the show including Lucy Lane’s father Sam Lane, Livewire, Red Tornado, and Non. “Supergirl” is slated to premiere October 26th.
