Trevor Jackson (“black-ish”) and Jason Mitchell (“Mudbound”) have joined the cast of the upcoming remake of 1972 blaxsploitation classic “Superfly” (shortened to one word for the remake) at Sony Pictures.
Jackson will play Youngblood Priest and Mitchell will play Eddie, joining a cast that includes Lex Scott Davis as Georgia, Andrea Londo as Cynthia, Jacob Ming-Trent as Fat Freddy, and Omar Chapparo as Adalberto.
Ron O’Neal starred in the original as Priest Youngblood, a cocaine dealer who was trying to do one last deal before he left the drug business forever. The film was mainly remembered for its soundtrack by Curtis Mayfield.
“Watchmen” writer Alex Tse is penning the film which Director X (aka Julien Christian Lutz) is helming. Joel Silver and hip-hop star Future will produce and curate the soundtrack. Rapper 21 Savage is also in talks to join the film in some capacity.
