Summit Entertainment has scored distribution rights to the Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor true story drama “The Impossible” reports Variety.
Based on events which took place during the 2004 tsunami disaster that swept South-East Asia, the project marks the English-language debut of Spanish filmmaker Juan Antonio Bayona (“The Orphanage”). Specific plot details are being kept under wraps but there’s said to be hints of horror and even science-fiction.
Sergio G. Sanchez penned the script while Belen Atienza, Lopez Lavigne and Ãlvaro Augustin are producing. Filming kicks off in Spain in August before moving to Thailand in October.
