STXFilms held a short CinemaCon presentation on Tuesday night where the highlight from the sounds of it was some no holds barred footage from “The Happytime Murders,” the very R rated Brian Henson-directed comedy starring Melissa McCarthy.
The story revolves around a murder mystery in a world where puppets are living beings and treated as second-class citizens. Footage shown off reportedly included a bunch of sex-crazed muppet castoffs who swear like sailors, sniff ecstasy, solicit characters, and in one scene ejaculate all over a rundown office. They also revealed the film’s tagline – “No Sesame. All Street.”
Other films on their slate showed off extended trailers including the Jennifer Garner-led revenge thriller “Peppermint” which takes her back to her “Alias” roots with the story of a mother who hunts for her child’s killers. Also showing footage were the survival drama “Adrift” with Sam Claflin and Shailene Woodley, the Jennifer Lopez-led comedy “Second Act,” and the Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg re-teaming on “Mile 22”.
