Biopics of famed authors remain all the rage despite the critical and commercial disappointments of the likes of “Rebel in the Rye” and “Goodbye Christopher Robin” this year.
The Tracking Board reports that one such title that’s hot at the moment is “George,” a film that looks at the love, loss and persecution of Jewish couple Hans & Margaret Rey. The pair survived Nazi occupations, public and professional discriminations, and battles of sexism in the publishing world before they went on to share their creation with the world – an inquisitive monkey character named Curious George.
Jeremy Michael Cohen penned the spec script which has numerous producers and studios circling for the rights to key territories including Michael De Luca, Barry Josephson, Walden Media, Amblin, Imagine Entertainment, Universal, Sony, Amazon, Montecito, Focus, New Regency and Netflix. Further details on who will actually score the project are expected to be revealed shortly.
