Strong To Helm J.R.R. Tolkien Biopic

UK director James Strong (“United,” “Broadchurch”) has signed on to helm “Middle Earth,” a biopic about author J.R.R. Tolkien and the creation of his seminal works “The Hobbit” and “The Lord Of The Rings”.

The story will explore Tolkien’s early life and love affair with Edith Bratt, whom he later married. When war broke out in 1914, Tolkien embarked on four years of battle and hardship, an experience that influenced his Middle Earth stories.

Black List scribe Angus Fletcher penned the script from materials he gathered on Tolkien during six years of archival research and personal interviews.

Rachael Horovitz, Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne will produce. Shaye and Lynne greenlit Peter Jackson’s “The Lord Of The Rings” film trilogy adaptation which went on to gross nearly $3 billion at the worldwide box office.
