Strong Set To Spy For “Tinker, Tailor”

Mark Strong has joined the cast of Tomas Alfredson’s upcoming adaptation of John Le Carre’s Cold War-set spy novel “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy” reports Empire Online.

The story follows middle-aged, pen-pushing British intelligence operative George Smiley (Gary Oldman) who must find the identity of a Soviet mole within ‘The Circus’, the highest echelons of the S.I.S. (MI6).

Strong will play Jim Prideaux, a Circus agent shot in the back during the failed Operation Testify early in the story. Prideaux’s testimony reveals the existence of said mole in The Circus.

The actor joins the likes of Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ciaran Hinds, Jared Harris and Svetlana Khodchenhova who’ve already been cast in key supporting roles, while Ralph Fiennes and David Thewlis have also been linked. Peter Morgan (“The Queen,” “The Last King of Scotland”) adapted the script.

Producer Tim Bevan has also confirmed that the book’s original Cold War setting will be retained and Le Carre himself will be present on set as a consultant.
