Streisand To Helm “Catherine The Great”

Barbra Streisand is set to direct “Catherine the Great,” a biopic about the Russian empress from a script by Kristina Lauren Anderson that made last year’s Blacklist.

Catherine was born Sophia Augusta Fredericka to German royalty and took power when her husband Peter III was assassinated. She was the most renowned and the longest-ruling female leader of Russia, reigning from 1762 to 1796 and helped modernize the Russian empire – turning it into one of the great powers of Europe.

The project would mark Streisand’s first directorial effort in two decades, her last being 1996’s “The Mirror Has Two Faces “. The singer/actress last appeared on screen in 2012’s “The Guilt Trip”.
