Streep & Hoffman Have Doubt

Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman are set to join the feature adaptation of Broadway hit “Doubt.”

John Patrick Shanley will adapt and direct the Pulitzer and Tony award winning play he created into film for Miramax.

Set in a Bronx Catholic School in 1964, Streep will play Sister Aloysius, a strict disciplinarian nun and principal. When she accuses a popular priest (Hoffman) of sexually abusing one of his students, an escalating debate begins over his guilt or innocence.

The other leading role of Sister James, the woman caught in the middle, has yet to be cast. Production begins December 1st in New York.
