Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant are attached to star in Stephen Frears’ “Florence,” a biopic of Florence Foster Jenkins for Pathe.
Jenkins was a New York heiress and socialite who coveted a career as a great opera singer, but who lacked any real ability – in fact her voice was comically terrible.
Streep would play her, while Grant would play her partner and manager St Clair Bayfield. Bayfield was an aristocratic English actor determined to protect Florence from the truth.
Nicholas Martin penned the script which will cover Jenkins life up until her 1944 Carnegie Hall concert which sold 3,000 tickets, she then died a month later. Michael Kuhn and Tracey Seaward will produce.
