Reuters has confirmed the three month old report from Latino Review that John Stevenson (“Kung Fu Panda”) has signed on to direct a new live-action version of “Masters of the Universe” for Warner Bros. and Silver Pictures.
Based on the popular 1980s He-Man cartoon and toy line, Mattel will co-produce the Justin Marks-penned feature which reimagines the story with a more gritty fantasy bent.
In the new version, Adam is a soldier who sets off to find his destiny, happening upon magical world called Eternia. There, a being called Skeletor has raised a technological army and is bent on eradicating all traces of magic.
Production would kick off late 2009/early 2010. No word on a potential release date as yet.
