Steve Martin Tries Ornithology With “Year”

Steve Martin is in negotiations to join the comedy ensemble “The Big Year” for Fox 2000 says The Hollywood Reporter.

Howard Franklin will adapt Mark Obmascik’s 1998 novel about three avid bird-watchers trying to one-up each other in a competition to find the rarest birds in North America while each faces their own personal challenge.

Owen Wilson and Jack Black are already set to play two of the three with Martin in talks for the third, a role Dustin Hoffman had previously been linked to.

David Frankel (“Marley & Me,” “The Devil Wears Prada”) will direct with shooting to kick off this May in Canada. Karen Rosenfelt, Ben Stiller, Stuart Cornfeld, Curtis Hanson and Carol Fenelon will produce.
