Steve Carell will voice the title character in Universal’s 3-D CG-animated feature “Despicable Me” says Variety.
Carell’s title character is a deplorable man known as Groo who masterminds the mother of all heists when he plots to steal the moon.
Egged on by an evil mother (Julie Andrews), Groo finds one obstacle in his way: a trio of orphan girls who temporarily come under his care and won’t leave.
Jason Segel, Kristen Wiig, Will Arnett, Danny McBride, Russell Brand, Jemaine Clement (“Flight of the Conchords”) and Jack McBrayer (“30 Rock”) also lend their voices.
“Horton Hears a Who” scribes Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio penned the script. Chris Meledandri, Janet Healy and John Cohen will produce while Chris Renaud and Pierre Coffin will direct. A 2010 release is planned.
