Staunton, Richardson Join “Maleficent”

Acting legends Imelda Staunton and Miranda Richardson are joining Angelina Jolie in Disney’s “Maleficent” says Heat Vision.

This revisionist take on “Sleeping Beauty” tells the fairy tale from the point of view of the witch (Jolie) that cursed Aurora (Elle Fanning) to a permanent sleep on her 16th birthday.

Kenneth Cranham, Sam Riley, Lesley Manville and India Eisley are also hopping onboard the project. Staunton and Manville play two of three pixies who take care of Aurora.

Cranham will play the human king who plots to conquer the fairy kingdom, with Sharlto Copley already cast as his half-human, half-fairy bastard son.

Riley plays Maleficent’s right hand man Diaval who turns into a raven. Richardson will play Maleficent’s aunt, the fairy queen Ulla. Eisley will play a younger version of Jolie’s Maleficent in the film’s opening scenes.

Robert Stromberg helms the project which is set to begin shooting next month.
