Statham Wanted For “Transformers 4”?

With both Michael Bay and Shia LaBeouf departing, the “Transformers” film franchise will be taking a different direction for a potential fourth entry which Paramount Pictures moving forward.

What direction that will be however is being highly debated at the moment, and Showbiz Spy has a rather speculative report indicating that action star Jason Statham is being looked at as a potential leading man.

The suggestion isn’t a huge leap. The current third film’s female lead, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, is the real life girlfriend of Statham and would likely come back for the fourth film if he were involved.

Their source claims “it’s clear the franchise still has huge potential but with a new leading man capable of taking Transformers in a new, darker direction. Jason could be just the man to do that and his relationship with Rosie would be an added bonus in marketing the movie.”

Statham himself, who starred in “The Mechanic” remake back in January and lent his voice to “Gnomeo and Juliet” in February, will be almost inescapable this Fall as the man has three films set for release States-side between late August and late October.

These include the adaptation of Ken Bruen’s “Blitz”, about a serial killer targeting London cops, which is going direct to DVD/Blu-ray on August 23rd; the Clive Owen and Robert DeNiro-led “Killer Elite”, based on Sir Ranulph Fiennes’ novel ‘The Feather Men’, on September 23rd; and the Boaz Yakin-directed “Safe”, in which he takes on Triads, Russian Mafia and corrupt New York politicians, on October 28th.
