The other week came reports that an end credits scene for “The Fate of the Furious” was cut at the last minute. Said scene teased a team-up and potential spin-off between Dwayne Johnson’s Agent Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw characters.
Today, Deadline is reporting that Universal Pictures has begun development of that idea with plans to turn it into the first ‘Furious’ spin-off film. Series screenwriter Chris Morgan has signed on to pen the spin-off, though things are in such early stages there’s no word on when it’ll go into production.
Variety adds an additional detail, indicating that Charlize Theron could be part of the spin-off as well with the concept being Hobbs and Shaw teaming up to go after her Cypher character.
It’s also not clear if Universal will use the footage they already shot as a teaser for the project. After one week, “The Fate of the Furious” has so far earned $685 million at the worldwide box office.
