Statham, DePalma Team On “Heat” Remake

Jason Statham is set to star and Brian De Palma will direct a remake of “Heat” for Sierra-Affinity. Before you scream I don’t mean the modern classic that is Michael Mann’s 1995 crime thriller, rather the Burt Reynolds-led 1986 action film about an ex-mercenary turned Vegas bouncer.

The legendary William Goldman penned the novel and adapted the script of both the original and this version in which Statham plays a tough recovering gambling addict who makes a living providing protection.

When a dear friend is brutally beaten by a high-rolling mobster, he helps her get her revenge and he ends up in more trouble than he ever imagined. One difference to his usual outings – Statham’s character hates gunplay, keeping his fighting style restricted to hand and edged weapon combat.

Steven Chasman will produce and shooting will kick off in France in about a year’s time.
