Jason Statham is in negotiations to star in the action thriller “The Killer’s Game” for STX Films. Additionally, D.J. Caruso (“Disturbia,” “Eagle Eye,” “xXx: The Return of Xander Cage”) is slated to direct.
One of Hollywood’s oldest unproduced scripts, this adaptation of the 1997 Jay Bonansinga novel follows a veteran assassin who is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness and takes a hit out on himself to avoid the pain that is destined to follow.
After ordering the kill, he finds out that he was misdiagnosed and must then fend off the army of former colleagues trying to kill him. STX Films would finance and distribute.
Attempts at a film adaptation have been underway even before the book was officially published with the likes of Michael Keaton and Wesley Snipes attached to star at various points while previously linked directors include Alex Proyas, John Woo, Pitof, Rupert Wainwright, Renny Harlin and Simon Crane.
Steve Richards and Andrew Lazar will produce.
