Starz has cancelled the J.K. Simmons-led sci-fi spy drama “Counterpart” after two seasons. The series airs its now final episode on Sunday.
In the series, Simmons plays Howard Silk, a lowly cog in the Berlin-based United Nations spy agency who discovers the secret of a crossing into a parallel dimension. The only man he can trust is Prime (also played by Simmons), his near-identical counterpart from said dimension.
Showrunner and creator Justin Marks revealed the cancellation on social media this morning and indicated the program will be shopped around:
“It’s been an absolute dream for this team… we got to make EXACTLY the show we wanted to… perfect cast, perfect crew on 2 continents… and we’re so grateful to our network for the time we had… Thank you to everyone who made this journey so special for us. Your tweets, podcasts, and intricate conspiracy theories have made it all worthwhile. Fingers crossed that our wonderful studio, MRC, can find a way to keep the dream alive!.”
Olivia Williams, Harry Lloyd, Nicholas Pinnock, Nazanin Boniadi, Sara Serraiocco, and Ulrich Thomsen co-starred in the series.
