Star Wars Rumor 1138: The Kids Are All Right

Another day, another bit of dubious “Star Wars” speculation based on probability and “unnamed sources”. Though originally reported on Friday, the report has only just gained traction in the past 24-48 hours.

The rumour comes from Showbiz 411 where the generally reliable Roger Friedman says that both Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher will be returning alongside Harrison Ford in the upcoming J.J. Abrams-directed “Star Wars: Episode VII”.

Friedman adds that the story will focus on their children: “It’s some time in the future. Han, Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker will be a lot older. Their children will be the new main characters. R2-D2 and C-3PO will be unchanged, I would guess. since they are not human. But suffice to say, the three main actors are definitely coming back.”

It was previously announced that none of the existing novels or comic books would be used as part of the new trilogy. With Harrison Ford now aged 70, Hamill 61, and Fisher 56, these “kids” would likely be at least in their early-mid twenties.

This would also suggest the film would follow the same 30 year gap between trilogies as there was between the prequels and the original trilogy. It also leaves plenty of breathing room for spin-off features to ‘fill in’ the gap as it were.
