Executive producer Dave Filoni has confirmed that the upcoming fourth and final season of “Star Wars Rebels” will adopt a much more serialized storytelling formula than the past three seasons.
In the new season the Empire will be gearing up to retaliate after Grand Admiral Thrawn once again failed to capture the Ghost Crew. Despite Chopper Base being ransacked, the team look set to finally join Mon Mothma’s faction which will lead to the events of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”.
Speaking about the the more interconnected tone, Filoni tells The Nerdist:
“I’ve been able to build a lot better connections and motivations across all the episodes as we go. It is very unlike other seasons, because while the episodes are self contained, they are very next to each other in progression. They affect each other more; it’s more serialized than you’re used to.”
Several storylines have been left hanging that need to be tied up in the new episodes including Ahsoka’s disappearance, along with the Darksaber and Sabine subplot. “Star Wars Rebels” returns tonight with ‘Heroes of Mandalore: Part 1 & 2’ on Disney XD.
