“Star Wars” producer Gary Kurtz and British crime film director Greg Hall are teaming for a new biopic about British poet and playwright Christopher Marlowe. Francis Hamit is penning the script and filming will take place in Wales this fall.
Marlowe is best remembered as William Shakespeare’s friend and rival, but the film will go beyond that – looking into his time as a spy for the British crown while a student at Cambridge University.
Marlowe, who preached atheism and openly bragged about his homosexuality, died at the age of 29 in an assumed bar room brawl. The filmmakers contend he was assassinated by his fellow secret service agents as a matter of state policy.
