“Star Wars”: Lando, Krennic & The Executioner

A couple of pieces of “Star Wars” today starting with “Star Wars: Episode VIII”.

Making Star Wars reports that a special Stormtrooper will appear in the Rian Johnson-helmed film, one akin to FN-2199 (aka. TR-8R), the memorable Stormtrooper who battled Finn outside of Maz Kanata’s palace in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”.

In Episode VIII, the trooper will be called ‘The Executioner’ and will have a helmet that will consist of a black matte coating over half of it. He also has a weapon with three spinning blades on the end that’s akin to “something out of Phantasm”. He may also have a shield.

On to “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and director Gareth Edwards spoke with USA Today recently about Ben Mendelsohn’s role as Director Orson Krennic in the film. It turns out Krennic is different from other ‘Wars’ baddies, a lot of which is due to his frustrations about hitting the glass ceiling:

“It feels like if the Empire ever have a job vacancy, they go to the Royal Shakespeare Company to headhunt people. I like the idea that Ben’s character was much more working-class” and rose in the ranks “through sheer force of personality and ideas. [Krennic] hits a brick wall in the hierarchy where they won’t let him in the club and it’s going to turn into a them-or-us situation: either Krennic or Tarkin and the others.”

The SW Show has revealed that new standees for “Rogue One,” standees that will soon be set up at 100 select IMAX theaters, include secret messages written in the fictional language of Aurebesh. A translation is up at Comicbook.com.

The film has also scored a new fan creation by Olly Gibbs, a take on the poster art for the film but reimagined with Jar Jar Binks in every role.

Finally, over the weekend came the announcement of Donald Glover being cast as the young Lando Calrissian in the Han Solo “Star Wars” spin-off. In the wake of that, this week the actor and rapper spoke with Ellen DeGeneres about the casting and you can see the discussion below:
