Rian Johnson’s “Star Wars: Episode VIII” looks to have suffered the same fate that J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” did a few years ago – namely it has been pushed back by seven months from a May to a December release.
Originally slated to open May 26th 2017, ‘Episode VIII’ will now hit cinemas on December 15th 2017. The move is being done due to the $1.8 billion worldwide success of ‘Force Awakens’ in its first month of release.
Earlier this week came a report that ‘Episode VIII’ was undergoing script revisions to better incorporate the new characters introduced in ‘The Force Awakens’. Disney has yet to confirm that story.
To fill in that gap in the Memorial Day 2017 weekend slot, Disney has moved up the release of “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” from July 7th 2017 to the May 26th slot.
