Star Wars: Episode VII Date, Casting Talk

A couple of updates on “Star Wars: Episode VII” today, and as usual it’s mostly speculative.

It began with a tweet from Dennis Barbie, Disney’s director of retail in the Netherlands, a tweet that has since been deleted. At the time though it said:

“#StarWars,Saw today some awsome first features/plans of new StarWars 7 movie coming end 2015. #Disney studio role out.”

He was then asked outright if he meant that Disney was planning to roll out the new “Star Wars” in December 2015 rather than the Summer 2015 date that was previously being targeted.

His response? “End of CY15 [is the target] but in the entertainment business you will never know.”

This would add to reports last week that Disney wants the film out in Summer 2015, while the producers would prefer a Summer 2016 date. Late 2015 would be a comfortable compromise date.

Then there’s the Twitter announced UK casting call for a Walt Disney Pictures film that even news sources such as BBC News are saying are for ‘Episode VII’. The roles in question are:

PERSON #1: A young woman to play 17-18 year old. Must be beautiful, smart and athletic. Open to all ethnicities, but must be over 16.

ROLE #1: “Rachel – Was quite young when she lost her parents. With no other family, she was forced to make her way in a tough, dangerous town. Now 17, she has become street smart and strong. She is able to take care of herself using humor and guts to get by. Always a survivor, never a victim, she remains hopeful that she can move away from this harsh existence to a better life. She is always thinking of what she can do to move ahead.”

PERSON #2: Young man to play 19-23 years old. Must be handsome, smart and athletic. Must be over 18.

ROLE #2: Thomas – Has grown up without a father’s influence. Without the model of being a man, he doesn’t have the strongest sense of himself. Despite this he is smart, capable and shows courage when it is needed. He can appreciate the absurdities in life and understands you can’t take life too seriously.

Finally, talking about the movie “How I Live Now” with The Playlist, actress Saoirse Ronan revealed that she didn’t get the role in “Episode VII” that she previously mentioned she had auditioned for:

“I don’t have ‘Star Wars.’ I don’t have the role. I just shouldn’t have said anything. I just auditioned for it, like everyone else did.”

Asked what the auditioned involved, she said:

“To pretend that you have a lightsaber in a scene is always very exciting. It would be great. But it’s something that everyone’s gone up for.”
