LucasFilm and director Rian Johnson are reportedly rumored to be seeking a strong female lead for the upcoming “Star Wars: Episode VIII” says Geek Nation.
When the initial “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” cast was announced, the film was criticised for having only one central female character (Daisy Ridley) aside from the returning Leia (Carrie Fisher).
Subsequently came the announcements of Lupita Nyong’o as mo-cap creation Maz Kanata and Gwendoline Christie as the villain Captain Phasma. This ‘Episode VIII’ female lead will not be introduced in ‘Force Awakens’, but is said to be one of the primary heroes and may tie in to one of the series’ more prominent characters.
“Star Wars: Episode VIII” is currently targeting a May 26th 2017 release.
