Rising British scribe Jack Thorne has been set to work on a re-write of the script for Colin Trevorrow’s “Star Wars: Episode IX”.
Trevorrow and writing partner Derek Connolly had previously been working on the script, but a fresh set of eyes is reportedly needed. How extensive the rewrites will be is uncertain at this point.
Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac are all expected to return for the film which aims to begin shooting in January, just weeks after the release of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”.
Thorne, who got his start writing on the original “Skins” and “Shameless,” is arguably best known for penning the stage play “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” and is slated to pen the TV adaptation of Philip Pullman’s “His Dark Materials” for the BBC.
He’s also penned the various installments of the long-running “This is England” mini-series; created acclaimed limited series such as “The Fades,” “National Treasure” and “The Last Panthers”; and films such as the post-apocalyptic “How I Live Now” and the upcoming Julia Roberts-led “Wonder”.
“Star Wars: Episode IX” is scheduled for release May 24th 2019.
