“Star Wars” BFI Clip, New Rules & “Forces” Promo

A couple of “Star Wars” updates today starting with the British Film Institute premiering a new video detailing a new trainee program between Lucasfilm and the BFI.

The new video includes brief and sadly not very revealing behind-the-scenes video from production on both the upcoming “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” as well as the still-in-production “Han Solo” movie. Filming on “Han Solo,” with Ron Howard now taking the helm, has begun again with Howard posting a photo from the set.

Actor Adam Driver has spoken with The Huffington Post this week about ‘Last Jedi’ and says that director Rian Johnson is changing up the rules of the greater “Star Wars” universe:

“[Johnson] created new rules for the Star Wars universe and balanced the familiar and unfamiliar very adeptly while respecting that his audience can handle ambiguity. Which you can see in his previous films. Characters and story are his priority.”

Next up, Star Wars News Net tweeted the other day that some of Disney’s merchandising partners have already seen footage from both films and have been impressed. They tweeted out:

“A month ago a #HanSolo sizzle reel was shown to Disney licensees and we hear people were very impressed with it. That’s a fact. They were especially impressed with Glover and Ehrenreich. That’s why we think Alden will do just fine as young Han. :)”

Finally, a new promo is out for “Star Wars Forces of Destiny,” the animated web series which showcases the female heroes of the “Star Wars” universe and which will premiere July 3rd on Disney’s YouTube channel. Each episode will be 2-3 minutes in length, self-contained and take place in different time periods.
