DICE and Lucasfilm have announced that the highly anticipated video game “Star Wars Battlefront” is set to be released on November 17th 2015 in North America, and November 19th in Europe.
The first full-length trailer for the title premiered at the currently underway Star Wars Celebration convention where it was also revealed that the game will serve as a direct prequel to “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”.
The opening shot of yesterday’s second trailer for ‘Force Awakens’ showed a crashed Imperial Star Destroyer on the desert planet of Jakku. Those who pre-order the game will get to participate in ‘The Battle of Jakku’ mission which will become available as free DLC on December 1st to them. Those who don’t pre-order get access to it a week later on December 8th.
Set after the Battle of Endor seen in “Return of the Jedi,” the game sees a pivotal moment when the New Republic takes on key Imperial holdouts on the remote desert planet on the Outer Rim. The game is a part of canon and so will offer backstory on things we’ll see in the movie.
The full trailer is viewable below and utilises the award-winning Frostbite game engine. Players can ride speeder bikes and snow speeders, command AT-ATs and pilot TIE fighters and the Millennium Falcon around planets such as Endor, Hoth, Tatooine and a new one called Sullust. Players will also be able to play as memorable characters in the original trilogy including Darth Vader and Boba Fett.
There’s one issue with the game – it will NOT have a story-driven campaign, rather being just a series of missions. That said, the missions are playable alone for those who aren’t into local co-op or multiplayer.
The game will be available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
