CBS All Access has debuted the action-packed official Comic-Con trailer for the second season of “Star Trek: Discovery” following the panel for the sci-fi series at the convention today. It has been confirmed that the new season will see the addition of Rebecca Romijn as the Enterprise’s original Number One (played by Majel Barrett in the original pilot).
Also on the way are “Star Trek: Short Treks,” a four-episode series of shorts that will roll out beginning in December and ahead of the second season premiere in January. Each 10-15 minute short will consist of a stand-alone story exploring key characters and themes. These include more of the backstories of Tilly (Mary Wiseman), Saru (Doug Jones) and Harry Mudd (Rainn Wilson) along with one about new character Craft (Aldis Hodge) who awakens on a deserted ship.
Showrunner Alex Kurtzman confirms we will be seeing Spock in the new season which will have a ‘family’ theme as opposed to the war theme of the first season. Romijn is joined by fellow newcomers Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike and Tig Notaro as Chief Engineer Reno in the new season.
