Star Trek Comes To Blu-Ray Soon

To tie-in with the upcoming reboot of the “Star Trek” film franchise, Paramount Pictures has announced Blu-ray release dates for season one of the “Star Trek” original series and the six films featuring the original cast.

Though its already debuted on regular DVD and HD-DVD, the seven-disc Blu-ray release of “Star Trek: The Original Series – Season One” will be the first time that viewers will be able to toggle between the original broadcast versions and the recent remastered versions that include enhanced visual effects.

On May 12th, the studio will release two Blu-ray boxed sets of the films based on the original series – the “Star Trek Original Motion Picture Collection” (including all six films) and the “Star Trek Motion Picture Trilogy” (the unofficial trilogy featuring films 2, 3 & 4).

One problem is that the Blu-ray versions of the films are the original theatrical cuts and does NOT include Robert Wise’s much improved director’s edition of “Star Trek: The Motion Picture” released on DVD in 2001.

All the films have been remastered in high-definition with new 7.1 Dolby TrueHD audio.
