While the first two films in the rebooted “Star Trek” film franchise have involved Captain Kirk and Spock as a buddy team with the rest of the crew in supporting roles, it looks like the upcoming “Star Trek Beyond” will be featuring a wider spread of interactions.
Speaking with The Telegraph, actor Zachary Quinto revealed that in this entry Spock spends most of his on screen time with Karl Urban’s Dr. McCoy. Quinto says: “Those characters are so diametrically opposed that it’ll be nice to see them interacting.”
Quinto also spoke about the change of director from J.J. Abrams to Justin Lin, someone who is a quieter and less gregarious personality but one with a better familiarity with “Star Trek” on the whole and sounds like a vision of his own:
“Invariably there’s going to be a different vibe when you remove someone as gregarious and outgoing and talented as J.J., but Justin has come in with this really interesting and confident energy that’s a little bit more reserved and a little bit quieter, but also very powerful and really sure-handed. He knows exactly what he wants this movie to look like and that’s really exciting.”
Also today, the final Omaze video for the film’s charity campaign has been released and features Zachary Quinto paying tribute to Leonard Nimoy. “Star Trek Beyond” hits cinemas on July 8th 2016.
