The cast and crew of “Star Trek Beyond” showed up in Dubai this morning for a press conference to talk about the commencement of filming on location in the United Arab Emirates.
Dubai’s sandy surroundings and hi-tech urban planning has been used as a location several times on screen in recent years including “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,” “Furious 7” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”.
Producer Jeffrey Chernov says the choice of location was easy: “Dubai represents the future of what the frontier would be like in our film, and is an excellent place to shoot the movie as well as a special opportunity for all of us. This is not just the third of three movies, but has a new, refreshing twist, and Dubai’s great visuals really fit the story.”
Approximately two hundred extras will be on hand for scenes to be filmed on the project over the next two weeks around both the city and in studio space. Up until now, the project has been filming in Vancouver.
