One of the more unexpected but delightful surprises to come out of the early kerfuffle regarding production on the third “Star Trek” movie was that actor/writer Simon Pegg was taking on co-writing duties for the script.
Pegg and Doug Jung are working on the screenplay for the film which Justin Lin (“Fast Five”) is slated to direct. Speaking to Spinoff Online about the film’s tone, he says:
“[We] just want to take it forward with the spirit of the TV show. And it’s a story about frontierism and adventure and optimism and fun, and that’s where we want to take it, you know.
Where no man has gone before – where no one has gone before, sensibly corrected for a slighter more enlightened generation.”
Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana and Anton Yelchin are all on board to return for the film which will go into production shortly. Earlier this week came word that Idris Elba is in talks to play the sequel’s main villain.
