A shortlist of top directors to replace Roberto Orci at the helm of the third “Star Trek” feature has emerged over at Deadline and the choices are quite high-profile.
The four are Rupert Wyatt (“Rise of the Planet of the Apes”), Morten Tyldum (“The Imitation Game”), Justin Lin (“Fast Five”) and Daniel Espinosa (“Safe House”). Wyatt, whose mose recent film “The Gambler” is about to hit cinemas, is reportedly at the top of the list and has apparently had a meeting already.
Scheduling is where issues lie. Espinosa is slated to helm “Boston Strong” next, Lin on the other hand has had his “Bourne” sequel pushed back so that could leave room for him to take on ‘Trek’. Wyatt and Tydlum are still in early development of their next projects.
Duncan Jones (“Source Code”) was also rumored in the original report but the filmmaker has quickly shot that down on his Twitter feed. Orci and J.J. Abrams remain onboard as producers.
